Dangerous Goods: General Familiarization AND Safety

The Dangerous Goods - General familiarization and Safety familiarizes you with the handling and treatment of dangerous goods in air transport in accordance to ICAO Annex 6 and IATA 1.5 requirements. It was specifically designed to meet the needs of management, cargo handlers, and maintenance personnel dealing with dangerous goods in their everyday work.

By law an employer must ensure that personnel are competent to perform any function for which they are responsible prior to performing any of these functions. This must be achieved through training and assessment commensurate with the functions for which they are responsible. Such training must include: (a) general familiarization trainingpersonnel must be trained to be familiar with the general provisions; (b) function specific trainingpersonnel must be trained to competently perform the function for which they are responsible; and (c) safety trainingpersonnel must be trained on how to recognize the hazards presented by dangerous goods, on the safe handling of dangerous goods and on emergency response procedures.

This course is online self-paced study produced by infoWERK of Innsbruck Austria. It is based on EASA regulations as derived from ICAO standards and thus equally applicable to FAA and all other major national authorities.

This course is built into short 1-2 minute segments including animations, video and complete narration. The competency based aspects allows you to skip through certain sections for which you are able to show familiarity while requiring you to proceed in full with those topics in which you are not. A menu bar provides easy navigation between topics. The average time spent to follow and complete this course in full is 5 hours. The course ends with a final exam which when passed, provides a printable certificate of completion in your name.
